Spring Inspiration
You might be wondering why I have a picture of a toilet paper holder and what's on the back of the toilet in my powder room. This is a story about how the mind always surprises me and that nothing is a coincidence.
When we built our house there where SO many decisions to make. Luckily I found that once one element was decided on things tended to fall into place. The powder room came together with the wallpaper. I fell in LOVE with the silver pattern on a white background. It reminds me of fireworks, dandelions, atoms and the Universe itself. I was surprised when the hardware was put on the wall and the paper holder matched it perfectly! The dish came from my Mom and Dad's house while I was in Edmonton helping my Mom downscale to a condo. It's a funky ashtray made in Sweden from the 70's. As soon as I saw it I knew it had to come home with me and would be placed in the powder room. We've been in out house for seven years now and I still love walking into this space.
Two weeks ago I was in the studio and was suddenly struck with a design I needed to put into metal right away.
I really liked the way it quickly came together - the scale seemed just right, the frosted silver and the cubic zirconia played well against each other and it also turned into a nice pendant.
I came upstairs for lunch feeling rather pleased with myself as I went to wash my hands. As I looked around I started laughing. No wonder that design come together so quickly!! I had been looking at it for SEVEN years. It just took me awhile to turn the wallpaper (and toilet paper holder) into a piece of jewelry. Better late than never!
